Hello & Welcome

I would like to welcome you to these on-line courses.  I am looking forward to working with each of you and hope that you will find these courses both enjoyable and informative. My name is Professor Donald Paquet and I am the on-line professor. Initial course communication is via your student myCCRI account, other e-mail address and US mail. My e-mail address is DPaquet@ccri.edu

     Distance Learning Considerations:

Is Distance Learning for you?  Click the following blue link to help you find out.  http://ccri.edu/distance/isitforyou.shtml

To succeed in a Web-based course, you should be motivated, self-directed, and willing to work on your own and be able to navigate the web.  This type of course is not for everyone.  If you like to interact regularly in person with a professor and classmates, this is probably not the course for you.  If you can solve computer problems on your own without asking for much help, this type of instruction is right down your alley.  Good time management skills, self-discipline, and motivation are required to complete the course at a distance.

Course Description:
These are introductory courses designed to help students develop a basic knowledge and understanding of Computers, Windows or Web Site Development.  To take a course in the on-line format, however, you must have basic computer skills such as using e-mail, navigating the Web, and using the keyboard and mouse. Quizzes will be administered on-line.  Assignments will be submitted via  message. One on campus visit may be required for a final exam. Late work - assignments, quiz or exam - will be graded lower.

CCRI Blackboard web site is at http://blackboard.ccri.edu/

To Get Started: Before the course begins, it is recommended that you  visit the above sites and review the course outline and text list.   Many of your questions are answered in the course outline.  (You cannot login to the actual course materials until the semester starts).

     On-line Course management is controlled
 by the Blackboard system.

canada_md_wht.gif      Blackboard  is a course management program where much of the course resides.  Student tracking, lessons, messaging, chat, quizzing and exams will take place within the environment.   You cannot actually enter the course on the site until the semester begins and an account for you is build into blackboard.  You will need an LOGIN and Password to enter the course.  Account information is made available via your myCCRI course account. Your login ID and password will be e-mailed to you at the beginning of the semester.

Hardware and Software Requirements: You are required to have use of  a  computer with Internet access and an e-mail.   These courses require Windows operating system,   a word processor such as Word or WordPad. For Web Site Development you need a current version of a web editor. For Introduction to Computers you need Office . You must  be familiar with using e-mail and the Internet.  Other online courses may require specific software.  For best results use  Internet Explorer 6 or newer browser.  A modem of at least 56k is recommended.  You must have everything in place the first day of class. This entire course will be conducted on-line.  You will receive an email message via your myCCRI account and US mail one week before the class start date with book information.  I look forward to working with you in this course.

Good luck with these online courses.
